The lighthouse, Caldey Island
The lighthouse, Caldey Island
The lighthouse was designed by a Trinity House engineer, Joseph Nelson, and was completed in 1829. It is on the site of a former chapel. Initially it was powered by oil, now by acetylene gas, switched on by a sun valve. The flanking keepers' houses were added in 1868-70, designed by T C Harvey.
