SU5097 : Weir by Abingdon lock
near to Abingdon, Oxfordshire, Great Britain

Weir by Abingdon lock
This weir is on the current main course of the river Thames through Abingdon. The old course of the river passed further south, and what remains of it is a stream now called the Back Water. The river was diverted by monks in order to pass near Abingdon Abbey. (This information was taken from a sign by where a footpath meets the Back Water at about SU513966.)
