Sgurr nan Spainteach is the most easterly of the Five Sisters of Kintail. The "Spainteach" bit relates to the Spaniards who landed at Eilean Donan Castle and marched into Glen Shiel in 1719 as part of a Scottish led Rebellion against the George II. They were defeated by the British Army deployed across Glen Shiel and high onto the flank of the mountain. It was the next major attempt of the Jacobites, after Sherriffmuir in 1715, to re-instate a Stuart King. The third major attempt ended on Culloden Moor in 1746.
