The Site of Higher Doles Farm
The site of Higher Doles Farm is marked by a large trough made of sheets of stone bound together with iron bolts. This abandoned farm is situated on the old road, now merely a footpath, which was constructed in the 1600's to give access to lands newly taken in from the moor. SD7523 : Ruin of Middle Foe Edge Farm Here the Rossendale Way turns off the old road and goes downhill to cross Grane Road.
