Dew pond at Willington Cross
Dew pond at Willington Cross
This area has a dew pond in nearly every field. It was the traditional way of watering livestock in the fields. How they work is something of a mystery but it is thought that overnight condensation makes up for water lost. The clay soil of the field prevents any water from rain escaping, and the cool water in the pond helps to condense moisture at night.
