Entrance to King George V Dock, River Clyde
This was as close as I could get to the King George V Dock. The dock opened in 1931. It was designed as a large single basin, for the increasingly large vessels trading into the Clyde. It was intended to be the first of a series of docks on the south bank, but the 1930s depression eliminated any need for further development. The dock is now owned by Clydeport and is the only major operational dock on the upper Clyde. It handles a wide range of cargoes such as animal feeds, grain, industrial equipment, steel, agricultural and chemical.
