Posing
... for the photographer. The best time for encountering large herds of red deer is in late autumn and in winter, when most visitors have long since left the area and returned to their homes in England. Many Highland estates offer fishing for wild salmon in their rivers and for brown trout in their lochs. Another source of income is deer stalking, and large herds of red deer can often be seen roaming the hillsides. The animals appear to know when it is safe to stay put, and on approaching them quietly and not leaving the car it is possible to take pictures at a fairly close range. This herd belongs to Borrobol Estate, located further south on the River Helmsdale
