Berkeley Castle keep
Part of the circular keep built on the site of the original motte and bailey. Like many English Castles after the Civil War it was "slighted" at the orders of Parliament to prevent it being a threat in future. In this case however family connections in high places managed to have sufficient fortifications removed to keep the authorities happy whilst not actually destroying any of the inhabited parts of the castle!
