This whole area had fairly recently been landscaped as part of a redevelopment scheme. Notice however how open it was 26 years ago compared with a similar view today SJ8746 : Bedford Street Staircase Locks, Caldon Canal, Etruria. The change in Health & Safety culture is also noticeable with the later addition of a multiplicity of handrails!
