Pulley house on a levelled platform where the buildings of Croesor slate quarry used to be. The pulley was used to shift slate down an incline into Cwm Croesor.
The square contains Blaencwm pumping station in the valley bottom in NW (200m) and slopes steeply towards the summit of Moelwyn Mawr (720m, just outside in S).
