Thankful Villages
There are, it is thought, 52 so-called Thankful Villages (also sometimes called "Blessed Villages") in England and Wales. These villages get this epithet from the fact that they were fortunate enough to see the safe return home of all their men and women who went to war in the Great War of 1914-18
Somerset is clearly the most blessed county in this context, having nine such villages.
