taken 5 years ago, near to Chad Valley, Birmingham, England
Sheepcote Street bridge across the Birmingham Canal, Birmingham
The bridge takes Sheepcote Street across the "new" line of the Birmingham Canal. This was dug in the 1820s to straighten out the existing canal
Link , which was following the contours of the land. As a result, the canal lies in a trench in this section. Contrast the straight shape of the bridge with the hump-back bridges found on early canals in the countryside. The apartment block behind the bridge lies on the island between the new and old lines of the canal.
