This is one of 2 footbridges, either side of Hungerford Railway Bridge, which were opened in 2003 and named in celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Queen's coronation.
I like the way that pools of light are cast across the bridge from lamps at various levels, illuminating the pedestrians as they pass through them.
This bridge is on the upstream (south) side of Hungerford Bridge, and the view looks across to the South Bank of the Thames, with the Shell Tower lit up to the right.
1888 puts it in the William Ewart Gladstone era; but is it he? If not, who then? There are apocryphal stories of notable Conservatives confusing the NLC for a public convenience when on their way to the House. Perhaps this is one of 'them' leaving.
