Selby Railway Station
The original Selby railway station was the first to be built in Yorkshire and opened in 1834. Basically a large train shed with no platforms, the original building can still be seen on Ousegate, immediately northeast of the present station. Selby station was on the East Coast Main-Line until the early 1980s, when exploitation of the Selby coalfields meant the main-line tracks were diverted west of Selby to avoid subsidence.
