York, Yorkshire, Great Britain

York Railway Station
Bicycle racks on the unnumbered platform at the southeast corner of York railway station. The station opened in 1877 when it was said to be the largest railway station in the world. Designed by architect Thomas Prosser and engineer Thomas Elliot Harrison, it replaced an earlier station which had been built inside the city walls in 1841. York Station was refurbished in 2004 by GNER with the support of the Railway Heritage Trust. Apparently there is a Roman burial ground underneath the northern end of the station.
