Track towards Daniel Hayes
The hillside in the background is Daniel Hayes, site of an ancient settlement dating back 8000 years to the Mesolithic period. All this area appears as wooded on the Ordnance Survey maps, perhaps reflecting the eventual plans for the National Forest. The area to the right has been planted in recent years with mixed saplings, but the hillside above is still resolutely open country.
