A blue heritage plaque on the wall in Hall Street, Hull reads: "This building was erected as a station for the VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE formed in 1887 to assist the regular fire brigade. The carved firemen's heads are said to be of Captains of the time. The volunteers disbanded in 1891".
