The building opened as the Paignton Picture House in 1914, and used to be the oldest purpose built cinema in continuous use. Alas, it closed in 1999 to become the booking hall for the steam railway to Kingswear. It figured as the "Gaiety Theatre" in Agatha Christie's novels.
