On 18th October 1981, three tugs ran aground on this rocky beach. The Greek tugs (former Mersey tugs) were VERNICOS ALEXIA, which was towing VERNICOS GEORGIOS and VERNICOS BARBARA IV. After experiencing engine problems, VERNICOS ALEXIA fouled the towline and all three were swept ashore when its anchors failed to hold. The remains of one of the tugs can be seen in this photo.
