Forming an effective border between two marsh pastures. Cattle will not usually attempt to cross a ditch unless panicked, and a field gate to allow exit or entrance plus a short section of fencing to fill in the gaps between the gate and the bordering drains is all that is required to prevent cattle from leaving their designated pasture.
