SU4143 : Longparish station
near to Middleton, Hampshire, Great Britain

Longparish station
Opened in 1885 this station was built to one of the standard designs of the time of the London & South Western Railway: compare it with that at Worplesdon SU9855 : Worplesdon station. It was on the line from Hurstbourne Junction to Fullerton Junction which was built to carry north-south traffic in competition with the Didcot, Newbury & Southampton line which was backed by the rival Great Western Railway. It soon became obvious that the line was a white elephant. Passenger services ceased in 1931 and the track north of Longparish was lifted, although goods trains continued to serve Longparish until 1956. The station is now a private house.
