Ropley station, Mid Hants Railway
Class N locomotive No 31874 awaits departure time at Ropley with a train for Alresford on the so-called Watercress Line, which at that time only ran between these two stations, (it now extends as far as Alton). Class N locomotives were of the 2-6-0 type, and were introduced by Maunsell on the LSWR in 1917. Some 80 examples were built, of which this is the only survivor.
