With double rainbow above. The hedgerow seen at right lines Stone Road. Rainbows are multicoloured arcs that are caused when the sun shines onto droplets of moisture in the earth's atmosphere. The rainbow colours range from red (on the outside) and violet (on the inside). More rarely, a secondary rainbow can be seen: this is a second arc of a fainter colour display, outside the primary arc, with its colours arranged in the opposite order. The most spectacular rainbow displays occur when part of the sky is still cloudy and dark and the observer is at a spot with clear sky in the direction of the sun. LinkExternal link
