The Pines of Himley
The Great Western Railway branch line from Wolverhampton to Stourbridge Junction (via Wombourne) was a failure. It was originally intended to run it to Bridgnorth. With interruptions for the war, it took twelve years to build. After completion in 1925, it was only open for seven years to passengers, and finally closed for freight in June 1965. It is now used as a very attractive leisure walkway which includes a nature reserve and a specially maintained area of deciduous woodland, both with public access.
