Floods of 2000
Floods of 2000
The Nailbourne had burst its banks flooding the Old Palace Road - the Old Palace in the background, the site of an archiepiscopal palace, built in circa 1552 for Archbishop Thomas Cranmer using buildings belonging to Christchurch, Canterbury and destroyed in the Civil War; only the gatehouse, now a cottage survives. The present house is late C18 to C19. and was owned by Ian Fleming until 1968, during which time he wrote some of his James Bond books there.
