War memorial to Canadian airmen
War memorial to Canadian airmen
In this modern society, some of us remember and thank those who made great sacrifices on our behalf. During the Second World War there was a bombing range on nearby Longdon Marsh and in 1944 two Wellington bombers crashed in mid air. One managed to return to base but the other crashed here. The plaque reads: "Dedicated to the memory of seven Canadian airmen who lost their lives as a result of a mid-air collision between two Wellington bombers on the 11th of August 1944. Wellington MF 591 struggled back to base at Honeybourne. Wellington LP 618 crashed in a field near Hanley Swan. Only the pilot survived."
