Bricking round the Airey Houses
Bricking round the Airey Houses
Airey Houses were post-war prefabs made from concrete slabs reinforced with tubing recycled from use as tilt frames on military vehicles. Fifty years on they are suffering from degradation of the materials and it is difficult if not impossible to get a mortgage on one. One answer is to replace the concrete slabs with blocks, faced with brick, adding a layer of insulation between the two. The finished job should result in a much warmer and structurally sound home. This pair are on the western edge of the square.
