Tuxedo Royale, Middlesbrough - diesel generator
This was the former cross channel ferry SS Dover that had been used as a nightclub and renamed Tuxedo Royale. This was built by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson and entered service in 1965. She was in service until 1987. As built she was of 3602 GRT and powered by a pair of double reduction geared turbines of 9000 kW and good for 20 knots. The turbines were of Pametrada design.

This is the engine room showing one of the turbocharged diesel engines driving a dynamo. The commutator is visible nearest the camera and shows this to be a DC machine. Although the vessel was propelled by steam turbines its electrical needs were met by diesel generators. I would have liked to see this vessel in better condition.
