SK8190 : Gypsum bands in marl escarpment

Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, Great Britain

Gypsum bands in marl escarpment
Gypsum bands in marl escarpment
Bands of gypsum were exposed in the marl during road widening in 1968. Without the gypsum bands the marl escarpment would have been eroded long ago. This escarpment is the eastern ridge of the Trent valley at this point.
