SZ4976 : Landslips at Gore Cliff

taken 15 years ago, near to Blackgang, Isle of Wight, Great Britain

Landslips at Gore Cliff
Landslips at Gore Cliff
This is where the westbound undercliff road terminates in 2004. The original road disappeared in one of the larger landslips in the early 20th century. It originally connected with Blackgang. The sign by the track warns "Active Landslip. Please keep away from the edge". This chalk and clay coastal area is highly prone to slumping. There is a fascinating visitor centre that contains much geological and geographical information in Ventnor.
