The Chapel on Chapel Field - under restoration
The Chapel on Chapel Field - under restoration
Although the photo flattens out the view, Chapel Field is actually a low hill rising above the Minsmere levels and presumably that was the reason it was chosen by the monks who established a monastery here in the late 12th century, according to LinkExternal link . Some two centuries later they moved inland to St Mary's Abbey, Leiston, which, unaccountably Simon Knott has not included in his exemplary website. The address of the architect coincidentally gives a unconscious reference to the family that farmed this land for over 100 years until the mid-1990s.
