SK8037 : The disused Grantham Canal near Bottesford, Leicestershire

The disused Grantham Canal near Bottesford, Leicestershire
West of bridge 55 the canal has been cleared. On the field bank this has been done severely, on the towpath side a margin of about a metre has been left giving cover to wildlife. The water is clear of duckweed, maybe because of the clearance. Note the slope of the field. The land to the north of the towpath falls away even more dramatically. One can almost imagine the narrow boats on the water again!
