TQ0209 : Old Course of the River Arun

taken 10 years ago, near to South Stoke, West Sussex, Great Britain

Old Course of the River Arun
Old Course of the River Arun
The line of trees mark the route of the former river now little more than a drainage ditch. The wide meander headed east then turned north at the eastern edge of the valley before swinging west then turning south to rejoin the current route on the opposite bank to South Stoke Farm. The shorter cut was made in 1840 possibly to help navigation and prevent flooding.
