Former Varsity Line route
Former Varsity Line route
View from Long Road looking back towards Cambridge station. The muddy track marks the route the dismantled 'Varsity' Line used to take. If you walk along this track there is still evidence of the former route in the form of rough grey ballast used to hold the rail sleepers in place. Just before the last tracks were pulled up British Rail in their wisdom left a few old coaches on the track. Not surprisingly there was little left of their windows within a few weeks. Two years later the guided busway is now visible along the route, TL4555 : Busway to Cambridge.
