The deep meltwater channel occupied by the Afon Soch
Prior to the Devensian Glaciation, Afon Soch flowed southwards to reach the sea in the Hell's Mouth area. Massive and complex deposition of glacial debris in the Soch basin which blocked its access to the sea and the creation of meltwater channels eastwards through the hills has meant that for the past 80,000 or so years, the Soch has drained eastwards into Tremadog Bay.
