Meander bends, point bars, natural and artificial levees, and backswamps on the flood plain of Afon Soch
Meander bends, point bars, natural and artificial levees, and backswamps on the flood plain of Afon Soch
These broad looping bends reflect the gentle gradient of the flood plain. The inside of each bend is characterised by a point bar - a crescent-shaped accumulation of gravel and sand deposited by the river. Levees are low embankments built naturally by the river in flood and/or by human construction.
