Cattle on Hambledon Hill
Cattle on Hambledon Hill
These calves are on the inner southern rampart of the iron-age hill fort on the northern spur of Hambledon Hill. The summit of the hill is in the distance towards the right of this photograph, and the approach to the hill-fort from the summit is defended by an extra pair of banks and ditches (centre of the photograph) and an extra-tall inner bank (towards the left of the photograph). A neolithic enclosure occupied the hill's summit, and a slight trace of the boundary can be seen in the field towards the right of the photograph.
