I was fairly puzzled by this. It doesn't look mammalian and the Bedford River is not noted for crocodiles, so could it be a fish, perhaps a pike? Remind me not to go swimming! Afraid I didn't note the size but the grass gives some clue.

Edit: Penny Mayes found some photos which corroborate the idea that this was the lower jaw of a pike.
