Fulbourn Mental Hospital, Victoria House
An asylum, initially intended to hold 259 lunatics, was opened at Fulbourn in 1858. Renamed Fulbourn Mental Hospital in 1917, in 1951 it held as many as 920 patients, but numbers thereafter fell, to c. 450 in 1991. Nowadays it is administered by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a subsidiary site to Addenbrooke's. The photograph shows the original three-storey central block.
