Pillbox A118, Old Lodge Warren
Type 24 built in 1940 on a defensive line that stretched from Newhaven to the mouth of the Medway and designed to stop any invading army that had successfully negotiated the beaches. The structure is on a private strip of land to the south of the footpath that links Palesgate Lane with the Woodland Trust open access lands next to the railway. Visibility is not being helped by the snow flurries but the rising land in the background to the left is Rochester's Forest.
