Scandale Tarn
Scandale Tarn
A gem tucked away under Little Hart Crag.Heaton Cooper writes of an unlikely link between this tarn and the state of modern Egypt. One Harry Boyle described as 'one of the founders of modern Egypt' stocked the tarn with 'Gudgeon fish' in 1878 and carved a message to that effect upon a rock on the side of the tarn. Despite several visits over recent years I have not been able to discern any evidence of carvings on rocks or Gudgeon Fish for that matter. It is reported however that a Gudgeon not normally found in the area was caught in the River Brathay, 1500' lower down the valley some time after 1878.
