Scratch dial at East Quantoxhead church
Scratch dial at East Quantoxhead church
The priest's door on the southern aspect of the church with its 'scratch dial' clearly visible to the right of the door. Before clocks came into use in the 16th century, the pre-Reformation priest often relied on a Scratch Dial to give him the correct times at which to say Mass. The central gnomon has long since rusted away.
