67642 at Newcastle Central Station – 1964
Gresley type V1 2-6-2 tank engine for the London and North Eastern Railway for suburban passenger and local freight work, introduced in 1930. On this occasion 67642 appears to have been acting as station pilot, being available to move coaching stock around as required. At this time the southern section of the station was still enclosed with a roof, and looking particularly gloomy on a very wet day.
Newcastle Central Station

Newcastle Central Station opened in 1850 for the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway Company. It is a Grade I listed building. LinkExternal link . The station is situated on the East Coast Main Line, but a variety of rail companies run services across the country.
