SJ3470 : Old Dee embankment

taken 10 years ago, near to Shotwick, Cheshire, Great Britain

Old Dee embankment
Old Dee embankment
The tree-clad embankment, through which the lane cuts, once formed the banks of the Dee. In the 18th century the Dee was canalized and its course was changed, leaving the flat land visible beyond the far gate to be drained for agriculture. The Welsh border still follows the old river course and is the line of the hedgerow crossing the field in the distance.
