Penguin at Dunchurch
Each year around Christmas, an anonymous group of villagers dress up the statue of Lord John Scott (a 19th century local dignitary who lived in Cawston Hall and was MP for Roxburghshire) in an appropriate costume. Nobody knows who does it (it is always done in the dead of the night) or why. Local newspapers speculate as to what theme might be chosen each year, but none predicted a penguin - believed to represent the number of films featuring penguins released in 2007. In 2006, the statue was dressed as Postman Pat. An acceptable and harmless form of vandalism!
