SE1863 : Hawkshaw Gill Wood

taken 10 years ago, near to Low Laithe, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

Hawkshaw Gill Wood
Hawkshaw Gill Wood
The wood consists largely of conifer plantations, but there has been woodland on this site for hundreds of years. A map of 1611 shows this area as 'Greate Wood' and 'Gouthwit Wood'. Perhaps future planting will help to restore the original birch and oak wood.
