Smallholdings on the slopes of Gwylwyr hill
Smallholdings on the slopes of Gwylwyr hill
These smallholdings were carved out of the moorland by quarrymen-farmers in the 19thC. Farming helped to weather periodic recessions in the quarrying industry. These units are today much sought after by people seeking land to keep horses and a few free range chickens and geese. The Gwylwyr Granite Quarry can be seen on the left of the photo.
