Public footpath and course of old railway
Public footpath and course of old railway
This northerly facing photograph was taken from a public footpath (centre foreground, through to the stile on the left) that connects SK4262 : Rouse Street, Pilsley (ahead, left) with SK4361 : Church Lane, Tibshelf (behind the viewpoint, right).

The slight dip in the land at this point, and the hedge running diagonally across the picture, shows the course of an old railway line that once connected the Great Central Railway (to the north-east, ahead and right) with the Midland Railway (to the south-west, behind the viewpoint and left).

The house standing alone, in the distance on the right, was the SK4262 : Station Master's House, which is on SK4262 : Station Road, Pilsley. This building is the only substantial remnant of the railway that once ran through the village. The gap between this building and the ones to its left is the position of the cutting that carried this railway.
