General Francisco de Miranda
General Francisco de Miranda
This statue stands at the side of the building on the corner of Fitzroy Street and Fitzroy Square. The inscription on the plinth describes General Miranda as the 'Precursor of Latin American independence. Born in Venezuela. Died a prisoner in Spain.' He lived from 1750 - 1816 and between 1802 and 1810 he occupied 58 Grafton Way, a house nearby, now part of the Venezuelan embassy. For a picture of the house see TQ2982 : Miranda House, Grafton Way.
