SK4833 : The source of West Park flooding

taken 10 years ago, near to Long Eaton, Derbyshire, Great Britain

The source of West Park flooding
The source of West Park flooding
Golden Brook runs through West Park in an Easterly direction.

This sluice-gate is where it flows into a short culvert which takes it beneath the Erewash Canal. I assume that it is deliberately set to restrict the flow downstream and flood West Park. Hopefully there are Environment Agency staff on alert to do adjustments should this flooding threaten the properties which surround the park.

From here it runs (a lot of the time now underground) across Long Eaton and discharges into the Erewash as that river runs through the thin green belt which separates Long Eaton from Toton / Chilwell and the rest of the Nottingham conurbation. The Erewash in turns joins the Trent in the Attenborough Nature Reserve.
